Tony Schum

Tony Schum is a director in the Site Selection and Incentives Advisory practice, based in Austin.

Tony leverages over 20 years of experience in economic development and corporate location advisory. He specializes in site selection modeling and strategy, as well as identifying, negotiating and implementing tax and non-tax incentives for expanding or relocating companies. He also assists clients in the pursuit of workforce training awards, R&D funding and other grants expected to generate positive economic impact. Tony’s expertise spans various industries, which include automotive, biotech, creative media, energy, manufacturing and software.

Prior to joining Kroll, Tony served as Director of Economic Development for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, where his primary role was recruiting new technology companies to Central Texas. His other areas of responsibility included business retention and expansion, marketing and public policy work. Prior to joining the Austin Chamber, Tony was an analyst in Texas Governor Rick Perry’s Office of Constituent Services, where he coordinated and archived inbound communications.

Tony has worked with hundreds of companies, from high-tech startups to Fortune 500 corporations, seeking local and state incentives. While at the Austin Chamber, he managed over 50 company expansions or relocations to Central Texas, and during his time at Kroll, he has secured more than $2 billion in incentive savings for clients with more than $10 billion in capital investments. Tony has also provided testimony to state and local community groups and is a frequent speaker at economic development conferences around the country.

Tony holds a B.A. in political science from Texas State University.
